5 Bad Habits That Make Thyroid Problems Worse

The thyroid gland affects nearly all metabolic processes in the body. Thyroid diseases are becoming a common problem for many people around the world. It can lead to problematic sleep, mood, metabolism and memory. However, don’t let this problem distress you because there are some tips that can help you with the condition. You just need to make some changes in your daily routine and lifestyle in order to manage it.

These are the 5 habits that need to be ignored when dealing with a thyroid condition:

ALLOWING STRESS BLOW UP

Stress and thyroid condition can impair memory in the long term. Stress restrains the thyroid and the secretion of its hormone. They are already in danger in patients with a form of thyroid disease. Try to reduce your stress levels when dealing with a thyroid problem.

SMOKING

Thyroid problems can escalate with smoking. This happens because of the cyanide presence in tobacco smoke. It is an anti-thyroid agent that prevents the gland from synthesizing hormones that connect to their receptors.

Liver, alongside other organs can be damaged with this habit.

SOY CONSUMPTION

Soy consumption is dangerous, especially for people experiencing thyroid condition. It contains numerous c=ingredients that hurt the thyroid gland. For instance, goitrogens prevent the thyroid gland from synthesizing hormones and metabolizing iodine. Moreover, soy holds back the effectiveness of many thyroid treatments.

EATING TOO MUCH RAW CRUCIFEROUS VEGGIES

Eating too much cabbage and turnips can harm the thyroid function in people with iodine deficiency. It occurs due to glucosinolates in these vegetables, which the body transforms into goitrin. Goitrin is an ingredient that obstructs the secretion of hormone. So, you can still eat these veggies, but do not over consume them.

IGNORING DOCTORS ADVICE

Not treating properly your thyroid condition can trigger a serious damage. You need to get help from a naturopath or dietician who will examine your condition and offer recommendations.

DO AND DON’T WHEN DEALING WITH THYROID CONDITION:

Foods to eliminate when dealing with an underactive thyroid:

  • Anything with gluten or white flour. It has been proven that it is very congesting for the body and gluten actually suppresses the thyroid. So, if you know it is slow, it is genetically weak, that is the first thing that must go.
  • Dairy products. They are very mucus forming, very congesting and also full of hormones and antibiotics that create chaos in the body. Remember you hormone health is like a symphony in the body. When one organ is out of balance, it is going to affect the entire synergy of the body and you are simply not going to feel well.
  • Sugar. It also affects your thyroid and many other areas, including the brain. Probably this is not something you hear for the first time. These three foods are inflammatory and will create a hormonal mess in your body. Be extremely careful with that because hormones are messengers that give direction for activation of all your vital functions in the body.

Foods to add when dealing with an underactive thyroid:

  • Kalp.
  • Liquid iodine.
  • Organic herbs that should be taken for 5 months to a year.

An additional tip:

No matter if you are experiencing low or over producing thyroid, make sweating therapy your friend. Your thyroid is connected to your skin, which is considered to be the third kidney. It is the largest organ of the body and that’s how the body is trying to eliminate the whole junk. So, make sure you sweat.

20 Great Habits for Stronger and Healthier Hair

Every woman wishes for a strong, shiny, and healthy hair, but most of the regular care practices are a downturn in keeping the hair healthy. Some of these things we do automatically, but they do affect the health of our hair.  Here are 20 great habits for stronger and healthier hair!

1. Moisten the hair with plain white vinegar after using shampoo and let it work for a few minutes before washing. Your hair will be much shinier after the very first use.

2. Use a natural avocado hair mask one a month

3. Wash the hair with egg yolks instead of shampoo. As unusual as it seems, raw egg yolks moisturize the hair much better than most commercial products.

4. Avoid washing the hair too often as this practice removes the oil from the scalp which is needed for nutrition and growth.

5. Use a sulfate-free shampoo as sulfate tends to deprive the hair of its moisture.

6. Braiding the hair before bed gives natural waves in the morning and prevents the hair from tangling and breakage.

7. Massage the scalp with a wooden brush on a daily basis to increase blood flow in this area and stimulate hair growth.

8. Protect the hair from the sun by using sunscreens and summer hair styling products which protect the hair from salt water and chlorine.

9. Instead of blow drying the hair, let it dry naturally as often as possible.

10. Dry the hair before bedtime as wet hair is more prone to breakage.

11. Argan oil is highly beneficial for the hair! Use it as a conditioner or for split ends and dry scalp

12. Avoid curling irons and hot straighteners as high temperatures weaken the hair. In case you must use any, make sure you use a spray-in heat protectant, too.

13. Don’t bleach or dye your hair as they contain chemicals like ammonia, which has been shown to damage the hair and burn the scalp.

14. Never brush the hair when it is wet since this makes it prone to breakage. Use a comb right after applying a hair conditioner.

15. Use a silk or satin pillowcase for the bed. These materials are safer for the hair as they don’t catch it like other pillowcases do when you toss and turn.

16. Consume biotin to stimulate hair growth and skin regeneration.

17. If your hair is prone to split ends, trim it every 8 weeks to keep it strong and healthy.

18. Take care of your hair with natural masks which are high in vitamins and beneficial oils.

19. Eat well as the hair is nourished by the food you eat. If your diet lacks natural fats, vitamins, and protein, your hair will suffer.

20. Relax! Stress is one of the most damaging things for the hair. No matter how much you nourish your hair, stress will affect the hair and it will never be as shiny as it could be.

2 common habits that cause inflammation inside your body – do THIS to reverse it

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, has been long considered as a long silent killer, but inflammation is gradually becoming acknowledged as the root cause of many serious health conditions.  Conditions directly caused by a lifestyle that can be silent but fatal, affecting every aspect of one`s health, contributing to both the development and progression of many different diseases.

Inflammation is a normal process which allows the body to fight off infections on its own. When kept under control, it protects the body from viral and bacterial invaders. Once it finishes its’job’, the body goes back to normal and the inflammation declines.

The problem arises when we are constantly exposed to injuries through stress and foods that the bodies are not able to process, such as refined grains, sugar, and trans-fats.

Public Enemy #1: Stress

While stress has been long known to cause great damage to both the mind and the body, a research from Carnegie Mellon published this month shows that the link between stress and inflammation is much stronger.

Cortisol, a stress hormone, is designed to be released in case of any stressful situation.  It is in charge of the natural ‘fight or flight’ response.

Unfortunately, these days the stressors are much more serious due to the tight schedules and time-constrained daily regimens. In case of chronic stress, the effectiveness of cortisol in keeping inflammation in check is diminished. Tissues become particularly prone to the effects of this hormone, which leads to excessive inflammation. Simply put, another cycle results in the development and progression of the disease.

Public Enemy #2: Standard American Diet

According to a recent article by Dr. Dwight Lundell, a well-respected heart surgeon, “the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn, and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.”

When eating simple carbohydrates like white sugar and flour, the blood sugar spikes. This increases the secretion of insulin, whose role is to keep blood sugar into healthy ranges.

Spiking the blood sugar a few times daily makes one insulin-resistant and it also  “like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.” At this point, inflammation occurs.

Although omega-6 fats are important, the correct balance with omega-3 fats is even more important.  A 3:1 ratio (omega-6s vs omega-3s) is ideal, but due to the American Standard Diet, the imbalances can go up to 30:1.

Such an imbalance causes the cells to produce cytokines, chemicals which are directly linked to inflammation.  The burden that many people carry from these foods creates a cycle of fat cells secreting cytokines in response to constantly increased blood sugar. Over time, this creates the perfect conditions for the development of diseases like diabetes, Alzheimer’s, hypertension, and heart disease.

Turn Back The Clock

First, find some activity that helps you relax and relieve stress, and stick to it. Whether it`s meditation, yoga, or exercise, you need to find an outlet for stress relief.

Then, eliminate processed and low-fat foods, and swap them for nutrient-dense fruits and veggies, whole grains and healthy fats, grass-fed fairy and real butter, and high protein sources from pasture-raised pork and poultry and wild caught fish.

10 Dangerous Brain-Damaging Habits to Stop Immediately

The brain is responsible for vital life functions, so keeping it healthy and functioning at optimal level is a must.  Below you have 10 habits which are negatively affecting the brain and you need to stop doing them right away.

1. Boredom

Neuroplasticity is brain`s ability to think differently, keep memories, and make new connections.   Lack of intellectual stimulation leads to a decline in brain`s effectiveness, just like with any other organ.

2. No Breakfast

Given that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, going through the day without it causes the metabolism to slow down and the brain to shut down some of its functions.

According to a Japanese study, people who tend to skip breakfast on a regular basis are at 36% higher risk of suffering a brain hemorrhage.  On the other hands, brain`s function is significantly improved if properly nourished every morning.

“Without glucose our brain simply doesn’t operate as well. People have difficulty understanding new information, [they have a] problem with visual and spatial understanding, and they don’t remember things as well,” a professor of pediatrics at Duke University.

3. Cell Phones

Electromagnetic fields emit radiation, which is extremely harmful for humans.  If nothing more, sleeping next to a cell phone is distracting!

According to a study done by Swedish researchers, radiation from a cell phone causes confusion, headaches, and is also associated with cancers, including brain tumors. To minimize the risk, limit cell phone use and keep it away from you as often as possible.

4. Working Through Illness

When going through an illness, the body and the immune system are working hard to fight off the infection.  Working through illness prolongs its length and increases the susceptibility to subsequent issues, affecting the brain function, too.

5. Over-eating

Over-eating causes excess weight, and often obesity as well.  We often eat foods which are poor in nutrients, which causes us to over-eat and feel hungry all the time.  Nutrient-poor foods diminish brain performance and may led to brain-related conditions like dementia and low brain volume.

6. Reticence

Oral communication is different than written one at various levels, including that they use different part of the brain.  Given that people are social animals and are supposed to communicate,  the fact that lack of oral communication and social interaction can cause anxiety and depression doesn’t come as surprise.

7. Lack of Sleep

Getting regular and quality sleep is of utmost importance for the overall health, including brain health.  While sleeping, the brain performs two important activities: storing memories and eliminating toxins.   Sleep deprivation leads to plaque accumulation, changes in the memory, and increased risk of neurodegenerative disease.

8. Smoking

According to a 2004 study,

“The study found that cigarette smoking alone caused damage to neuronal viability and cell membranes in the midbrain and on cell membranes of the cerebellar vermis. These brain regions are involved in fine and gross motor functions and balance and coordination.”

Luckily, the body is resilient and significant part of the damage caused by smoking can be reversed over a certain period of time.

9. Sugar

High sugar intake is detrimental for every cell, tissue, and organ in the body, including the central nervous system. It has been scientifically shown that there is a strong link between excess sugar intake and Alzheimer`s disease.

10. Air Pollution

Wearing an oxygen mask seems to be the only way to avoid air pollution. The brain we breathe is full of detrimental chemicals which affect all aspects of human condition.

It has been found that air pollution causes cognitive impairment and brain shrinkage, among other things.   Everything that we breathe and absorb through the skin, eventually reaches the blood stream and affects every single organ, including the brain.

According to researchers, air pollution is linked to development and worsening of Alzheimer`s disease, Parkinson`s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Read on and check out an amazing excerpt of an article written by neurologist Russell L. Blaylock, MD:

“My major concern is that there is evidence that they are spraying tons of nanosized aluminum compounds. It has been demonstrated in the scientific and medical literature that nanosized particles are infinitely more reactive and induce intense inflammation in a number of tissues. Of special concern is the effect of these nanoparticles on the brain and spinal cord, as a growing list of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) are strongly related to exposure to environmental aluminum.

“Studies have shown that these particles pass along the olfactory neural tracts, which connect directly to the area of the brain that is not only most affected by Alzheimer’s disease, but also the earliest affected in the course of the disease. It also has the highest level of brain aluminum in Alzheimer’s cases.

“The intranasal route of exposure makes spraying of massive amounts of nanoaluminum into the skies especially hazardous, as it will be inhaled by people of all ages, including babies and small children for many hours. We know that older people have the greatest reaction to this airborne aluminum. Because of the nanosizing of the aluminum particles being used, home-filtering systems will not remove the aluminum, thus prolonging exposure, even indoors.”
